Story

Alex was our dear friend who I first met on a trip to Lapland in 1999. He contracted meningitis on his Mum and Dad's wedding day when he was 7 and lived bravely with the many after effects of that illness until he died suddenly, at the age of 18, in August 2011. Alex was one of the most wonderful and inspiring people I've ever met, working tirelessly for the Meningitis Trust. He had recently been an Olympic torchbearer, a recipient on Secret Millionaire and had delivered a petition to Downing Street about better educational support for children with meningitis. He visited many schools with his torch this summer and with his inspirational message of "Believe & Achieve". Many of you will remember him from our summer party this year. We've set up this page to keep his memory alive and to help raise funds to continue his work. We are making a donation on behalf of everyone we'd normally buy a Christmas present for. Please feel free to do the same in lieu of gifts for us! Merry Christmas! lots of love, Julie, Ian, Martha and Alyssa xxx
